Louise wanted to know, can an LCHF diet affect uric acid levels and cause a gout attack? Louise is really struggling with gout and is wondering if it could be caused by following this lifestyle?

Ann Childers: There are some plants and animal products that can cause inflammation for persons that were predisposed to gout and she may want to look into this. One of the good things about the LCHF diet is it does get people off of high fructose items and those are very likely to cause gout attacks. So, there’s the good news. Again, in the LCHF diet, yes, there are foods that are known to aggravate gout. She may want to check with her practitioner about this.

Gout troubles are individual cases

BB: Doc, it’s also a case of that certain foods might trigger it in different people, so it’s not always the same thing that would trigger it. Sometimes you need to by trial and error figure out what it is that’s causing your gout attacks.

AC: That’s right, absolutely right, it’s very individual.

BB: Fantastic. Dr Ann Childers, thank you very much for that. Louise, thank you very much for your question, much appreciated. We look forward to hearing how you go and hopefully things get sorted out. Thank you very much for being in touch. We’re back again in just a couple of days time, from the two of us, it’s cheers.
